LELAND, N.C. (April 10, 2025) —US MgO announced on Monday the purchase of 23 acres of land in Leland, North Carolina and will soon break ground on its second manufacturing plant for magnesium oxide (MgO) cement sheathing panels. The plant will become just the second U.S. plant for MgO panels used in wall and floor applications, following US MgO’s first plant currently under construction in nearby Wilmington.
Both plants are being custom-built from the ground up using proprietary equipment and processes to produce a new type of magnesium oxide (MgO) sheathing panel that will directly compete with traditional gypsum and cement panels used in walls, roofs, and other building applications.
“We’re proud to take this next big step in our mission to transform the way we build homes and buildings nationwide,” said Ryan Miller, General Manager of US MgO. “Our fire-resistant, water-resistant, and structural cement sheathing panels are used to construct homes and buildings that are safer for people and more resilient to wildfires, hurricanes, and weather events,” said Miller.
The industry’s first made-in-America MgO panels for walls and floors will be available later this year from US MgO’s Wilmington plant. US MgO’s domestic supply will substantially increase in late 2026 when production begins at the Leland plant.
The new panels augment US MgO’s current inventory of high-quality imported products available from distributors nationwide.
